Services provided

Services are provided face‐to‐face in our rooms in Adelaide or via telehealth.

Initial consultation

The first meeting for us to find out more about you, set goals together and determine if we will make a good team to meet your goals. The standard consultation also includes some informal assessment.

If the client is younger than 10 years old, parents are welcome to attend this session without their child. For children and teenagers between 10-16 years old, it is requested that both the parent and child attend. Clients 17 years and above may attend alone or bring support people with them as they prefer.

Assessment / Review assessment

This session is about getting a formal understanding of your speech and stuttering and how it is affecting you cognitively and socially. The complete assessment might take more than one session to complete but you will only be charged for one assessment session at a given time.

Therapy session

These sessions involve training you as the client or parent to conduct home practice exercises at home to make changes to your speech.

Maintenance sessions

Once you have finished therapy, it may be recommended that you attend short maintenance sessions to monitor your continued progress and problem-solve issues that may arise. These sessions are particularly important for clients undertaking stuttering therapies.

Review consultations

After a break from therapy, you may wish to get a few tips to continue your progress or discuss whether or not another therapy cycle is warranted. A review consultation is an opportunity for us to discuss your current goals and concerns, provide some strategies to help you to move forward and determine if further therapy is required.

Please note, at this time Swift Speech and Stuttering has a focus on providing services for people with stuttering, cluttering or speech sound disorders. While we screen for language difficulties as part of our assessment and treat language difficulties associated with cluttering, clients presenting with complex language delays and disorders, voice disorders or swallowing difficulties are recommended to see a speech pathologist with a focus in those areas.

Accent Modification

See Accent Modification for details on accent reduction services and classes.

Professional Development and Mentoring

Swift Speech and Stuttering offers professional development for teachers, schools, speech pathologists, parents, employers and anyone else who wants to learn how to help people who stutter to not be limited by their stutter. Dr Michelle Swift is available to provide formal paid mentoring for speech pathologists working with clients who stutter. Individual or small group mentoring sessions via telehealth can be booked by clicking Schedule Appointment above.
